This Year's Model Updates:

The value-priced Work Truck package is now available on both regular and extended cabs. Base models pick up cruise control, a sound system, chrome rear bumper and chrome wheels. An automatic transmission is now standard on LS models, and the V6 is no longer an option in this trim. Other updates include new polished aluminum wheels and 265/70R16 tires with either black sidewalls or raised white lettering. The Quadrasteer option no longer requires the buyer to order trailering equipment. There's also a new tonneau cover, and inside, you'll find underseat storage. Finally, Chevrolet has deleted the Silverado's passenger-side outside door lock.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended-cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

Sportside good looking.I have had many trucks, Chevys, fords, jeeps and dodge. I think the assembly quality has gone way down. Mostly interior fit is bad from the side window post to the driver door trim is not good. Outside front wheel whell is 1 inch different from right side. Splash covers are not the same. Center cup holder is a pain where it is.

This truck won me over, from the looks to when I hit the petal down it took off beautifully and the ride was very comfortable.

Recently purchased a 2004 Silverado worktruck package. I use it for outside sales. Comfortable to drive. Im averaging 23 mpg which I consider good for a full size truck. The v-6 has good performance and great acceleration from 3 gear through 5.First seems to be geared a little low for avewrage driving. second is wound out at 40mph. Interior is roomy and instruments and controls are always at hand. Its quite a bit better than the dodge dakota I traded.

My 4th Silverado since 99-this is the truck Ive been waiting for! There are no air leaks like EXT Cab. Once you see the room inthis truck you wont even think about suicide doors! Plenty of leftover 04s out there. I got almost $7000 in rebates AND the dealer was selling at $200 over invoice. A $36,500 truck cost me $25,500 so shop around and get the best deal for YOU! The Dodge is macho, but the back seat in their "crew" cab sucks-not much bigger than my Chevy EXT Cab and much more upright. Make sure you sit in the Dodges seat before you even think about it. F-150 Crew is nice but more $$$. The perfect alternative to the Avalanche!

This vehicle rides like a cadillac. Its the most comfortable and smoothest riding truck Ive been in, it rides better than a Ford, thats for sure.

  • Bad Drivetrain with No Factory Support - 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

After 6000 miles the drivetrain started clunking loudly any time I drive backwards (in reverse). The clunk does not occur when I shift to reverse but clunks when I accelarate faster than normal. The clunk also occurs frequently when I accelarate hard and then let off the throttle. It sometimes occurs on 1st to 2nd upshifts or downshifts. I can feel the clunk in the floor and passengers ask me about it. This problem takes all of the joy out of owning this new truck. The dealer did the transmission reprogramming which did not correct the problem and they told me that I have to live with the problem. Many other owners are having the same problem.

Unlike any other truck on the market, I find that the Chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab combines the interior space and comfort of a full size, 4- door SUV with a full-length extremely practical pickup bed. Big, roomy fun to drive, good sounds (music)....very comfortable and a go getter on the highway. I find that it gives me a very good response with a minimal amount of effort. It just goes. Great Truck.

  • Nifty Truck - 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have alway driven only Ford trucks and still would if Ford had an AWD or 4- wheel drive with this power. The Lightning is reg. cab and 2-wheel drive and the beautiful HD is 2-wheel drive. This Chevy is very quiet and comfortable and handles great with brakes almost as good as my new Corvette. Im impressed so far.
